Namchi, 01/05/25: The much-awaited Annual Sports Fest 2025 of Sikkim Government College, Namchi commenced today on campus amidst great enthusiasm and sporting spirit. The fest, titled “Tejas Chaitanya”, witnessed a vibrant start with multiple sporting events taking place simultaneously across different venues of the college.

The inaugural ceremony was graced by Mr. G.P. Sharma, Joint Director, HRDD, Namchi District, as the Chief Guest, and Ms. Tshering Doma Bhutia, Joint Director, Sports and Youth Affairs, as the Special Guest. They were joined by proud alumni of the college — Ms. Dimila Bhutia from the Sports Department, Namchi, and Ms. Pema Lepcha, Assistant Football Coach of the Sikkim Girls’ Team.

The college fraternity, led by Principal Dr. Deepak Tiwari, Vice Principal Dr. Dewan Rai, and Dean Dr. Yugal Kishore Khanal, along with the entire teaching faculty, SRC members played active roles in organizing and facilitating the event in various capacities.

In his welcome address, Dr. Tiwari elaborated on the significance of the name “Tejas Chaitanya”, explaining that “Tejas” symbolizes radiance, brightness, and sharpness, while “Chaitanya” refers to a state of heightened awareness and spiritual awakening. He emphasized that the fest embodies both the energetic spirit and conscious growth of the students.

Commending the initiative, the Chief Guest Mr. Sharma appreciated the college for providing students with a refreshing break from routine academic life and encouraged them to strive for excellence in both academics and sports. He motivated the students to become well-rounded individuals and role models for society.

The interdepartmental competitions began with fervor, featuring outdoor events like football, volleyball, and tug-of-war for both male and female participants, along with indoor games such as badminton (singles, doubles, and mixed), table tennis (singles), chess, and Esports (Mobile Legends). All first-round matches were conducted on the opening day, and winners will progress through subsequent rounds leading up to the finals on 5th May.

The five-day fest, running from 1st to 5th May 2025, is expected to host several dignitaries in the coming days, including the Deputy Speaker and MLAs from the Sikkim Legislative Assembly, who are scheduled to visit and encourage the participants.
